Tree down after a storm? We answer day and night. Contact Us
Tree service in Maroa, IL from Decatur Elite Tree Service means trimming and removing big yard trees, taking out dead rows in farm windbreaks, grinding stumps and clearing storm damage. It's the same crew and the same prices as in Decatur, and you'll have the written number before anybody starts a saw.

Maroa is about 13 miles north of us on US 51. We stack Maroa jobs on the same days, usually two or three at a time, so you don't wait longer just because you live out of town. What we do here most:
Our trucks make the drive up US 51 for every Maroa job, so we like to line up two or three nearby jobs together. If a neighbor has a tree that's bugging them too, call together. Last summer we did 4 houses on one Maroa block in a single day.
Each of you still gets your own walk-around and your own written price. The only thing you share is a shorter wait for a work date, and honestly that's the part people like best.
Contact UsMaroa was incorporated in 1867 and grew where the Illinois Central and the Midland railroads crossed. For a while it was the biggest township in Macon County after Decatur. Today about 1,580 people live there, and many of the frame houses near the old downtown still have the street trees planted generations ago.
Silver maples and the elms that made it through Dutch elm disease can be 70 feet tall and a hundred years old here. If they're healthy, keep them. A thinning plus a round of deadwooding, which just means cutting out the dead branches, takes weight off the long limbs hanging over roofs and wires. Honestly, these old giants are some of our favorite trees to work on.
Almost every farmstead around Maroa has a windbreak: rows of spruce, pine, cedar or Osage orange on the north and west sides of the house to stop winter wind and drifting snow. When trees in the row die, we take those out and leave the rest standing. Pull too many at once and the snow ends up in your driveway again.
On January 3, 2023, an EF1 tornado with winds near 110 mph hit the northwest edge of Maroa, damaging silos and roofs. Summer storms with straight-line winds do the same kind of damage more often. Out in open farm country, there's nothing to slow the wind before it hits your trees.
Tree service in Maroa costs the same as in Decatur: about $250 to $1,200 to trim a mature tree and $400 to $1,900 to remove one in 2026. There's no trip charge for the drive up US 51. Removing several windbreak trees in one visit usually lowers the price per tree.
| Maroa job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Thin and deadwood an old silver maple | $500 to $1,100 |
| Remove a dead ash near the house | $700 to $1,600 |
| Take out dead trees from a windbreak row | $300 to $700 per tree |
| Big elm over the roof, in sections | $1,500 to $3,000 |
| Grind one stump, $50 off each extra | from $125 |
Your written price covers the whole job, including chipping, hauling and raking.
For the big old trees in town, we take out dead branches, thin the crown and shorten limbs that reach over the house. Most of this work happens from the bucket truck, which is quicker and easier on the tree than climbing.
Dead and dying trees come down in sections when they stand near houses, garages and lines, and in one piece when there's open ground to drop them. We've found a lot of Maroa folks heat with wood, so ask and we'll cut the logs to 16 inches and stack the firewood by the shed.
We pull dead windbreak trees, cut out volunteer mulberry and box elder, and clear fence lines along the fields. Brush gets chipped right there and hauled off or spread as mulch. A 300-foot fence row usually takes our crew most of a day.
After a storm we clear trees off houses, sheds and farm lanes first, then cut up what's down in the yard. Photos for your insurance claim come before the first cut. If a grain bin or a barn took the hit, tell us, because those need a different plan than a house roof.
Older Maroa streets often have the line to the house running straight through a big maple. Please don't cut near it yourself. We arrange for Ameren Illinois to drop the line to your house while we work, and in our experience the power is back on the same afternoon.
West of Decatur on Route 121, we also take care of plenty of yard trees and farm lots in Warrensburg.
Photos before we cut, a written description of what fell and what it hit, and an itemized invoice your insurer can read.

Contact UsNo trip charge. Maroa sits about 13 miles up US 51, and you pay the same as someone in town. We come look for free. Since we bunch Maroa jobs onto the same days, there's a good chance your work date lands right next to a neighbor's.
Often, yes. If the trunk is solid and most of the crown is alive, a thinning and deadwooding takes weight off the long limbs and removes the branches most likely to fall. We'll tell you honestly on the walk-around if the trunk is too hollow or cracked to keep.
If the gap faces north or west, yes. Plant the spring after we take the dead ones out. Spruce and red cedar fill in nicely. Until the new ones grow, the live rows on either side still break most of the wind, so you won't lose the whole windbreak in the meantime.
Sure. Farmsteads and acreage around Maroa make up a good share of our work up here: windbreaks, fence lines, limbs over sheds and bins, and brushy field edges. For the bigger brush jobs, our land clearing page has the details. Every job gets priced after one walk of the property.
