Tree down after a storm? We answer day and night. Contact Us
Tree removal in Long Creek, IL is most of what Decatur Elite Tree Service does out here: big maples and cottonwoods taken down, storm damage cleared, stumps ground and brushy lot lines opened up. Lots are big and the trees are bigger, so we walk all of it with you and put the price in writing within 48 hours.

Our east-side yard is a short run out US 36, so Long Creek is about as close as it gets for us. Lots here are bigger and the trees older than in most subdivisions, and the work list shows it:
On a one-acre Long Creek lot, three or four trees in one visit usually cost less than doing them one at a time. The trucks, the chipper and the crew are already set up. We did 5 trees on one lot off US 36 last summer for about what two separate visits would have cost.
So walk the whole property with us and point at everything that bugs you. We'll sort it into now, this winter and can wait, each with its own written price. Honestly, a lot of it lands in can wait.
Contact UsLong Creek is a village of about 1,260 people on the east edge of Decatur, with US 36 along its north side. The creek it's named for runs west through the middle of the village to Finley Creek and the southeast arm of Lake Decatur. Water and deep farm soil grow very large trees, very fast.
Along the creek and the lake arm, cottonwoods and silver maples reach 80 to 100 feet. Both have soft, brittle wood and shallow roots in wet ground. They're the trees that lose big limbs in summer storms and tip over when the soil is soaked. We look at the root zone as hard as the crown.
Plenty of homes outside the village core sit on old farm ground, with rows of spruce, pine or Osage orange planted as windbreaks decades ago. A windbreak works like a picket fence: one missing board is fine, but lose five in a row and the wind walks right through. We take out the dead trees and leave the live ones standing.
Tree removal in Long Creek usually costs $400 to $1,900 in 2026, and big creek-bank cottonwoods or maples near a house run $1,500 to $3,500. Open acreage keeps prices down, because many trees can be felled in one piece. Wet ground near the creek can add time when we have to bring wood out by hand.
| Long Creek job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Fell a dead tree in an open yard | $400 to $900 |
| Cottonwood near the house, in sections | $1,500 to $3,200 |
| Clear a 200-foot brushy fence line | $1,200 to $2,800 |
| Storm limb off a garage roof | $600 to $1,900 |
| Grind stumps in a pasture or big lawn | from $125 each |
Every price is written before we start and covers chipping, hauling and raking.
With open ground on one side, we cut a notch to aim the fall and bring the whole tree down in one piece. It's the fastest and cheapest way to remove a tree. In our experience about half the Long Creek removals we do allow it, which is a big reason prices out here run lower than in town.
Next to a house, a pole barn or a fence, the tree comes down from the top in pieces, each one lowered on a rope. For dead or rotten trees, we work from the bucket truck instead of climbing.
An EF2 tornado did some of its worst damage in the Long Creek and Mount Zion area, pulling roofs off homes and uprooting trees. After storms like that, we clear trees off houses and driveways first. We also take photos and write up the damage for your insurance claim.
Honeysuckle, box elder and volunteer mulberry swallow fence lines in a few seasons. We cut it all out, chip it on site and leave a clean line you can mow or re-fence. Our crews cleared roughly 600 feet of fence row out here last fall, most of it for two neighbors who split the cost.
Banks along the creek and the lake arm are steep and soft, so heavy trucks stay well back from the edge. We rope pieces uphill instead. Unless you ask, the stumps on a bank stay put, because their roots hold the soil in place, a bit like rebar in concrete.
North on US 51, the farm town of Maroa has its own share of old windbreaks and storm-tested trees.
Photos before we cut, a written description of what fell and what it hit, and an itemized invoice your insurer can read.

Contact UsOnly when it's dead, leaning at something, or the water has cut under it. A living tree on a bank is basically holding the dirt in place. Often we drop the trunk and leave the stump and roots right where they are, which takes away the danger and keeps the bank from washing out.
Yes, and it usually saves you money. Once the trucks, chipper and crew are set up on a Long Creek property, each extra tree costs less than booking it alone. Point out everything on the walk-around and we'll price each tree separately so you can choose.
Most of the time, with ground mats under the tires. If spring has the ground soaked, we'd rather wait for a dry week or a hard January freeze than rut your pasture. A storm emergency is different. Those go ahead in any weather, and we fix the ruts afterward.
No. Long Creek is about six miles out US 36 from downtown, closer to our yard than half of Decatur. Same prices, free walk-around, and the written number already includes travel, chipping and clean-up. You won't see a fuel line on the bill.
Whatever you like. We can haul everything, cut the logs to 16 inches for firewood and stack them, or leave big rounds for you to split. Many Long Creek customers with wood stoves keep the logs and have us haul only the brush.
