About Decatur Elite Tree Service

Decatur Elite Tree Service runs three crews out of Decatur with two bucket trucks, two chip trucks, a tracked stump grinder and a crane for the giants. Kyle Brandt owns the outfit, and most weeks he's the guy walking your yard to write up the price.

How Decatur Elite Tree Service Started

Kyle's from the east side, a short walk from Lake Decatur. At 17 he took a summer job hauling brush to a chipper behind a local tree crew, and he never really left. He tied into his first climb in 2009. That same year taught him something every climber learns once: a dead limb is a lot heavier than it looks, especially when it's coming your way.

Count it up since 2014 and it's close to 1,900 trees down and 4,600 stumps ground, from one end of Macon County to the other. Plenty were ash. The emerald ash borer hit Decatur in 2012, and most ash in town were dead a few summers later. Storms took a lot of the rest, along with maples that outgrew small yards and big old oaks the wind finally beat.

Hard hats. Safety glasses. Ear muffs. Chaps for whoever's running a saw. Honestly, the gear is the easy part. Following ANSI Z133 for crew safety and A300 for every pruning cut takes discipline on a hot August afternoon, and it's the reason our guys get home to supper and the trees we trim close up clean.

How we work

What You Can Expect From Us

  • A Straight Answer

In our experience about half the trees people call about just need a trim, and we'll tell you so.

  • A Price in Writing

Written up inside 48 hours. That number is the bill.

  • Storm Calls Answered

Any hour of the night. Worst damage gets us first.

  • A Clean Yard

Chips gone, logs gone, grass raked and the driveway blown clean before the trucks roll.

From the owner

Why We Look Up First

“Stand under a tree long enough and it'll show you where it wants to break. I listen to it first. Then somebody starts a saw.”

Kyle Brandt

Owner, Decatur Elite Tree Service

Climbing in Decatur since 2009. Kyle still answers a lot of the storm calls himself, and his own saddle and rope ride in his truck every day.

Hear From Our Customers

  • Laura W.West End, Decatur
    Tree removal
Two huge maples over our 1920s house. They roped every piece down and the only sign they were here was the fresh sawdust smell. Price was exactly what they wrote.
  • Dennis H.Long Creek
    Storm damage
Called at 11pm with an oak limb on the garage. Kyle's crew had a tarp on before 1am and came back at 8 to finish. They gave me photos for the insurance claim too.
  • Priya S.Mount Zion
    Stump grinding
Seven stumps ground through our side gate with that little tracked machine. Lawn barely marked. We seeded the spots that weekend.
  • Tom B.Forsyth
    Tree trimming
I asked for a removal and Kyle told me the tree was healthy and just needed a good thinning. Saved me about a thousand dollars and the shade.
  • Mark J.North Decatur
    Brush clearing
They cleared the fence line behind our rentals on Pershing Road, chipped everything and left it cleaner than it's been in years. Easy to work with as a landlord.
  • Sharon K.Maroa
    Dead tree removal
Dead ash right over the driveway. They used the bucket truck instead of climbing it and explained why. Done by lunch.
